Selangor Hockey Association Umpire’s Board held an Umpires Seminar on the 8th February 2014(Saturday) from8.00am to 1.00pm at Stadium Hoki KPM, Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur. A total of 23 Umpires (present &new) took part in this seminar.
This seminar was held to welcome the 15 new umpires whom passed their theory exams last year, to have a demonstration on the Bleep Run, various talks and knowledge sharing by the present international and ex-international umpires and an umpiring guideline presentation by Selangor Hockey League Umpires Coach, Steve Pratt.
A total of 19 umpires ran the Bleep Test in the morning. This test was held to expose the new and present umpires on the levels they were required to complete and to gauge the fitness levels of the umpires as well.
Mr. P. Balamuraly the Chairman of the Selangor Hockey Association Umpire’s Board, kicked start the Seminar in the morning with a presentation.
This was followed by the introduction and briefings by:-
a.) T. Paramalingam - ex Hon Secretary MHF
b.) P. Kuganeson – present Secretary SHA
c.) Surjit Singh – Ex International Umpire
d.) Nazmi Kamarudin – Current International Umpire, briefing on umpires career path for upcoming umpire
e.) K. Ananthavel – current AHF Technical Officer
The final presentation of the day was done by Selangor Hockey League Umpires Coach, Steve Pratt. He shared video with the umpires on the aspects of Body Language, Managing Hockey Matches at National or International Levels, Managing Conflicts in Games at all Level, Guideline on legal challenges and what is a foul.
Selangor Hockey Association Umpire’s Board Secretary S. Selvakumar, shared with the participants, MHCUC’s Calendar for national and International Tournaments, hoping that the umpires can keep themselves fit for the national tournaments that they will be selected for upgrading.
Umpires were given MHCUC Umpires registration forms for registrations and 25 umpires completed their registration with MHCUC and SHAUB.
The seminar was concluded with a Quiz session whereby the power banks and many more goodies were given away as prices.
Lunch was served.
This seminar was well received by its participants and SHAUB plans to carry out similar seminars at 2 times a year. Our next plan will be to call all the umpires during a national meet (if it is held in Kuala Lumpur) to watch the matches and the performance of the umpires to get more knowledge and tips to improve their umpiring.
